Hello all,
I hope your new year is off to a fabulous start! We are currently working on finishing up our human body systems unit. As we prepare to do so, we have a super fun activity planned for next week. You read it correctly, heart dissections! This is one of my favorite activities of the year, but I need your help. I would love to have a handful of parent volunteers to help aid the kids with scalpel handling, pictures, moral support, etc. Each table group will have one heart to dissect. We’ve talked about this in class a bit to prepare. This is a sheep heart, which closely resembles a human heart. We’ve also discussed how animals donate their bodies to science so this is not an inhumane activity. The sheep had already died and in an effort to use all pieces of the animal, we get the chance to perform a dissection.
So if you are available, interested, or need an excuse to become available the date of the dissection will be Thursday, January 21, 2016. This is next Thursday. We will be dissecting from 10-11am. Please let me know if you can make it to this fun filled science event.
Thanks,
Mrs. Archibald
