Young Ameritowne is Wednesday, February 21st. All students need a BAG lunch. If you volunteered to chaperone and did not receive an e-mail from a 5th grade teacher, please let us know ASAP! THERE IS NO SCHOOL Monday or Tuesday (February 19-20) for students.
A week at a glance:
Reading Core:
*This week, we finished our third unit on American Sports continuing our focus question from “why are sports important in American Culture?” Students applied their knowledge from this unit and used their creativity to describe what breaking barriers means to them. We just began our new unit. An author study of Roald Dahl!
Science:
We continued our Young Ameritowne unit this week. Students were trained for their selected jobs and staff meetings were held to prepare for running the town. Young Ameritowne is WEDNESDAY! :)
5th Grade Math:
*We continued our 4th module of multiplication and division of fractions and decimal fractions. Students learned how fractions are division through multiple forms (unit form, standard form, standard algorithm, tape diagram, etc). Students learned how to multiply a fraction of a whole, unit fraction to unit fraction, and non-unit fraction to non-unit fraction, while demonstrating this on a tape diagram/visual. Students applied this with word problems (which is still very difficult for students). We also converted measurements using fractions. The links for this unit on youtube is attached. We ended on lesson 16.
HW: IXL/Mathfacts AND workbook pages 75 and 89 front and back (Level 40, comparing fractions!)
6th Grade Math
*We are finishing our 4th unit of Expressions and Equations. The unit test was at the beginning of this week and we are working on a three task project DUE NEXT FRIDAY. Ask your child to see what they are doing and to show you their great knowledge.
Writing:
*We continued our descriptive essays around the circulatory and respiratory system. Students took notes, planned, and drafted these essays. We will continue this next week.
Extra:
Have a fabulous 4-day weekend!
