Even though it was a short week, we learned a lot in fifth grade!
A week at a glance:
*We continued learning about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We focused on how to decompose words and use context clues to find the meaning of words we are unfamiliar with. Your child completed paraphrasing, drawing a picture of what the Articles of the UDHR looked like, and didn't look like, this week. Our plan is to have our Assessment on this module next week (tentatively Thursday).
Ask your child what UDHR article is the most important to them and why! :)
We began our next PBL Unit called Why Does Matter, Matter? The project was explained to students with the introduction to our PBL board (a snapshot of our learning throughout this unit). Students also observed molecular structures on posters around the room and determined if they were a liquid, solid, or gas. We will need volunteers to help challenge our kiddos with their projects in October. The dates are posted on our Volunteer Sign Up Genius so feel free to sign up if this interests you!
*We have been focusing on ratios through ratio tables and equivalent ratios. We will be moving into rates and percents to help us continue to compare numbers. We are learning through ratio tables and double number lines. We have not talked about the algorithm yet and will be introducing that during percent lessons.
*We set goals, planned, drafted, and started to publish our second personal narrative with the focus of a challenge we experienced using prepositional phrases.
- Eagle Run is Friday, September 22nd! Your child received a purple form to get pledges for the run! Please read the top sheet to find more information!
- Bit.ly/5thvolunteer: Don't forget to sign up for volunteer options in 5th grade! This was updated last week with specific dates for field trips/PBL reflection.
- Remember our Epic Home Visit/Eagle Run T-Shirt making party is this Sunday from 1-4 at the Vossler’s house. I can’t wait!
